How to Sabre a Champagne Bottle

Is there a new baby in the family? Did you receive a promotion at work or get recognized for a job well done? Whatever the case, a time of celebration should be spent with family and friends, not on struggling to open the champagne !

When it comes to “popping the top,” we show you how to do it the right way, or Sabre, in our latest video.

Sharpen up your Sabre skills and never skip a beat the next time you find yourself celebrating and surrounded by loved ones!

Have you ever wondered how to celebrate a main event? Well, today I am going to show you how to sabre a bottle of champagne.

First, you’re going to need a good bottle of champagne. Just be aware that some of the cheap bottles do not work for sabering. You’re going to need to chill the bottle and once it’s ready you’re going to put it on the table and you’re going to remove the foil all around the neck of the bottle. Not just the top part but he entire foil needs to be removed.

Next you’re going to remove the cage. Make sure you keep your hand on the top just in case the cork wants to pop up.

Next step is very important; you need to locate the seam on the bottle. The seam is where the weakest point of the bottle is and that’s what you want to hit.

Then you’re going to hold the bottle firmly in one hand and point it into a safe direction. With your other hand you’re going to use your sabre or if you don’t have a sabre you can use a regular kitchen knife, just like I’m going to do.

Make sure you use the blunt side of the knife. You’re going to lay it in the bottleneck—flat on the bottleneck—and move it slightly back and forth a few times until you get comfortable.

And once you’re ready you’re going to do one quick movement forward. One, two, and voilà! Santé.
